Joy found yoga after a spine injury back in 2001. But it wasn't until she started a consistent practice that she really understood the benefits that yoga could offer. Yoga has become such a strong positive force in her life and she feels it is her duty to share it with others. Joy cannot imagine her life without yoga. Teaching allows her to share her passion and give back to others. Her goal is to create a warm and nurturing, yet physically challenging class setting so students can get in touch with what they need to get in touch with, and let go of what they need to let go of so they can heal and grow. She wants everyone to realize the amazing, loving, unlimited, strong spirit that lies within them. Her hope is that it will change their lives like it has hers.
Kim Brown, RYT 200
Kim Brown started using yoga as a method of adding movement to her daily routine
when she was traveling as a Technology Consultant in the mid-1990’s. She was
looking for a gentle but challenging exercise after blowing out her shoulders
from 17 intense years of competitive swimming. She studied books and DVDs for 11
years before finally getting the courage to step into a studio… and change her
life. Kim quickly obtained her Vinyasa certification through Rolf Gates and is
currently pursuing her Anusara RYT Teacher Training through Kathy at
Pulsation. Kim is a continual student and applies the lessons she has learned,
on and off the mat, to her classes.
Carol Bullock, RYT 200
My objective is to inspire students through the practice of yoga, to connect with their own personal wisdom, healing abilities and expansive potential. While casually practicing yoga, I was inspired by a teacher so deeply that it lead me to study and then teach yoga. I immersed myself in the study of classical yoga taking teacher training with Daren Fresion and have currently been practicing and studying Anusara Yoga. I have done numerous workshops with master teachers such as Tias Little, Alanna Kaivalya, Rod Stryker, Amy Impoloti, Sienna Sherman, Shiva Rae, and Saul David Rae. I love every aspect of yoga; mythology, yoga sutras, yoga philosophy, alignment, ayurvedic medicine and love to bring it into the classes I teach. It was through the many teachings of yoga I was able to detox my body of an eight year battle with Lyme disease. I am forever grateful for the teachings of yoga.
Mara has enjoyed a long relationship with yoga when as a student back in 1998 she turned to restorative yoga to help her manage the stress of being an elementary school teacher. She found that the more she gave to her yoga, the more it gave back to her both physically and spiritually. She slowly grew stronger and more balanced with a regular practice of yoga and she decided to take a leap into teaching when she moved to Illinois from Wisconsin. She received her certification in 2007 with Martin and Jordan Kirk and has taught public and private classes for the past seven years. She holds her E-RYT 200 certification.
Mara loves the heart opening, life affirming practice of Anusara yoga and the flowing style of Vinyasa, connecting postures to breath. She sequences her classes in a thoughtful, knowledgeable manner, encouraging everyone feel empowered, safe and connected as they move through their practice. Mara is so grateful to the practice and to all her teachers that have opened her heart and empowered her to live a more compassionate and authentic life.
Nadiya has been a student of yoga since 1985. She completed her 200-hour level Teacher Training at Yogawerks in 2003, focusing on Anusara Yoga studies. came to yoga roughly 6 years ago to relieve back pain and increase her strength. A fairly inflexible (and unathletic) person at first, Rachel took to her yoga practice like a fish in water after her first few classes with now long-time teacher Kathy Simonik. As an artist and avid reader, Rachel enjoys bringing her creative, imaginative style and big heart to each and every class she teaches, and is never one to shy away from a backbend. She completed her 200 hour teacher training in 2012 with Kathy & Jim Simonik and currently teaches the Warm Teen class on Tuesdays at 4:15pm
Melissa Hollander, RYT-20
Melissa studied with Wendy Dahl at Blue Sun Yoga for her 200-hour yoga certification. She has continued her studies, taking workshops with teachers such as Seane Corn, Wade Imre Morissette, Desiree Rumbaugh, and Gabriel Halpern. Melissa teaches yoga to all ages – from young children to senior citizens. She truly believes yoga can benefit everyone, no matter your age or fitness level. As a teacher, Melissa’s goal is to help each student find the best expression of yoga poses for their body, mind and spirit - to individualize their practice. She encourages an atmosphere where students can try new things without fear. Melissa came to yoga as an overstressed, overweight young mother and loved the physical and mental benefits. “Yoga has helped me to live in the moment, to slow down and savor the time I have with family and friends,” Melissa says. This breath, this moment … this is my life.

Megan Miller, RYT 200
Passionate about exercise and healthy living, Megan has always embraced movement. It was not until she began a regular yoga practice while her children were young that she felt true harmony and balance in body, mind, and spirit. Physically it built strength, flexibility, and freedom. Mentally it cultivated calmness, mindfulness, and peace. To share all of this, Megan became certified to teach yoga through Ana Forrest’s RYT 200 Hour Teacher’s Training in 2008. Also in 2008, she trained with Mac McHugh to teach Niyama HotTM Yoga, a dynamic sequenced series of poses practiced in a heated room. In March 2012 she completed an additional 200 hours of Anusara Immersions and RYT Teacher’s Training with Kathy Simonik at Pulsation Yoga. She has been tremendously influenced by and grateful for these life changing experiences. Finding yoga endlessly fascinating, she regularly attends workshops, trainings, and classes to enrich her own practice and teaching.
In her classes, she encourages students to strive to create practices that have foundations that are strong, safe, and aligned… to be guided by their inner wisdom, to nurture their uniqueness, and to be joyful, uplifted, and open hearted on their mats.
Since first “dabbling in” yoga asana 12 years ago and imitating the postures from a book a friend lent him, Frank has been immersing himself into a life of yoga including asana, philosophy, and most importantly svadhyaya (self-inquiry and study). Some of the teachers he’s been blessed to study with are Sarah Starnes, John Friend, Desiree Rumbaugh, Darren Rhodes and a myriad of other teachers both in the style and philosophy of Anusara as well as other styles and systems. Frank’s classes are alignment and strength focused with a playful intention on finding your “edge”.
Gail Muszynski, RYT 200, Cancer Yoga Therapy Teacher Certified
Gail's desire is to share her knowledge of the healing principles of yoga through the physical yoga practice, meditation and Yoga Nidra. In October of 2010, she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. After two stem cell transplants she began taking control of her mind, body and spirit. She kept her attitude strong and positive, her body active and her mind busy. Through asanas, meditation, yoga Nidra, along with her doctor’s care, she is now in full remission.
She hopes to help others feel the benefits of yoga and share her desire to strive to stay healthy for life.
Sarah Paxson, RYT 200
Sarah first came to yoga in 2004. After playing soccer and basketball since she could walk she needed a physical practice to connect with. She immediately found that connection on the mat. She completed her teacher training with Blue Sun Yoga in 2008 and has been teaching since. She is passionate about Acro Yoga and Anusara Yoga and continues to further her education in both areas. Her favorite pose changes all the time but she is particularly fond of the energizing, uplifting and open qualities of back bending.
